I'm Back from Las Vegas

So I'm back from my trip to Vegas. I had a great time, made some money and took tons of great photos that I will, of course, share with all of you. Here's a quick link to my gallery:

Excalibur Room and "view"

By now onto a more serious matter. I had a great time in Vegas, but the trip didn't start out so great. We left early in the morning, by car, and got to Vegas around 10:30am. So we tried to check in at our hotel, the Excalibur, owned by MGM Mirage Resorts, hoping we could get our room, if it was ready. It wasn't, which was fine, so we went off gambling to kill some time until we could get our room.

But when we checked in, we were informed that our room rate did not include a room with a view. We would have to pay an extra $10 to get a view. However, when we reserved the room on the Exalibur website, we did pay $10 for a view. Now they were saying that in order to get a view of the "Strip" we had to pay an additional $10. Okay, so we paid it, and that meant it was $20 extra for the view.

Well, 4 hours later, at 3pm, when they said the room would be ready, it wasn't. We had to wait an additional 45 minutes to finally get our room. Then once we got there we were totally and completely PISSED OFF to find out that our "view" was obstructed by a concrete wall that was littered with trash (see below, picture with banana peel).

When we went to the front desk to ask for another room, they said there were no other rooms available. At this point we were willing to get any room, with or without a view, as long as it was ready, since it was 4pm and we still didn't have our room. They said they couldn't refund us the $20, and give us another room. We had to wait and get one of their rooms with a "view."

We couldn't believe that we paid $20 extra for half a view of the Strip, and half a view of a wall with trash. We showed them the pictures I took, but they said, 'Yes we're aware of the view, that's what the upgraded ($20) rooms look like.' At this point we were totally frustrated and couldn't believe that they wouldn't at least work with us to get us a better room, which we paid for.

Finally, once we persisted, they found us another room, with a view of the inside portion of the hotel (see pictures), but at least we had a decent view, without trash, and the room was ready. We were partially satisfied, but still upset that they had to be so uncooperative about the whole thing. All we wanted was what we paid for, a decent view, without any obstructions (or trash).

I have stayed at the Excalibur several times in the past, and have always enjoyed that hotel. But after this experience I will NEVER stay at that hotel again. It's sad to say, but it's true.

I hope any one else out there does not have the same experience we had at this hotel, but if you do, please post your comments here. I would hope that if enough people complain, then maybe they will change the way they treat their customers.
